Join the Duluth YMCA and the Greater Downtown Council on July 10th to kick off the Downtown Sidewalk Sale Days with the 12th annual Sidewalk Shuffle 5K walk and run to raise money for scholarships!

HOW TO REGISTER: Register by June 30th to be guaranteed a T-shirt. Online registration will end midnight July 7th. Last minute paper registrations available at Downtown YMCA until July 10th.

Choose the impact your race will have in your community! 

START TIME: 12:10pm

AGES: 6 and older—family friendly!

COURSE:  The course will start and end at the Endion Station located next to Canal Park Lodge. Race course will be modified in 2019 due to Lakewalk construction. 

2019 Race Course


  1. Teams will need to designate a captain who will then create your team. If you are a business or organization, multiple teams can be created and paid for at once by selecting the drop-down arrow and the number of teams you would like to register. 

  2. After your team has been created, the Captain will need to notify Shuffle-mates of their team name and have them register by selecting "Join team" on the team registration page. Shuffle-mates will need to complete the form, select shirt size, and agree to the waiver. Multiple Shuffle-mates can be entered at once by selecting the drop-down arrow and the number of people joining a team. Maximum people per team is 5.  

WALKERS, SHUFFLERS, RUNNERS: We want the Shuffle to be an enjoyable experience for everyone, so please place yourselves appropriately at the starting line based on whether you will be walking, shuffling, or running the course. Runners, please place yourselves closer to the front. If you are planning to walk or shuffle the course, please place yourself closer to the mid or back of the starting line.

CHILD CARE: Child Care will be available at the Y while you race. Child care is included in your entry fee. Ages for Kids Club are 4 months-9 years of age.

SHOWERS: Free showers will be available at the Y after the race.

AWARDS AND RACE RESULTS: Award Ceremony will be held at the finish immediately following the race. Results will be posted on the Duluth Y website, www.duluthymca.org/programs/events/sidewalk-shuffle, www.northlandrunner.com, and www.duluthtimingandevents.com.

AWARD CATEGORIES:  1st Place Youth (6-12) Male & Female, 1-3rd place Teen (13-17) Male & Female, 1-3rd place Adult (18+) Male & Female, 1st place Teams Male & Female, Co-Ed Team. Team results will be based on the 4 fastest finishers of each team. Co-ed teams must have at least 2 people of the opposite gender on the team. Maximum of 5 Shufflers per team. 

PARKING: Please allow yourself time to park and to get to the start before the race start. The Y strongly suggests that you park at one of the nearby ramps and that you walk to the start line. Shufflers will receive free parking validation with proof of running bib for the Holiday Inn Ramp or 4th Avenue Auto Park.

Here at the Y, we want to do our very best to ensure the safety of our program participants. There are some situations where the decision may be made to cancel or alter the Sidewalk Shuffle 5k, as these may create an unsafe environment for those who are involved in the event.  

If the weather poses as a danger to runners, the Y upholds the right to cancel the Sidewalk Shuffle. If the forecast is calling for severe thunderstorms with the threat of lightning, the event may result in cancellation. 

Since weather is an uncontrolled variable, there will not be any refund or credits given in the event the race is cancelled. This is due to the expenses that go into the planning and implementation of the event.  

The Directors of the YMCA associated with the race will make the decision regarding the cancellation or alteration of the race. If weather conditions do not give reason to cancel the event, but could have an effect on the runners (such as heat), runners will be advised on how to handle these conditions prior to the race.  

In the event that a cancellation or alteration will take place, The YMCA will notify participants through email, the Duluth YMCA website, and social media as soon as the decision has been made.
