More than just a one-time activity, the Explore Series empowers youth to develop experience and ownership of nature-based activities abounding in our neighborhoods, community, and surrounding area. Youth may come in at any point in the series as a beginner or move on to advancing skill stations as a returner.

Join Jaron Cramer from the Superior Hiking Trail Association for guided hikes on a variety of local trails in the Duluth area. The difficulty and length of each hike will vary based on date. The first hike will be shorter and easier with length and difficulty increasing to the third hike.

Come help to refurbish a bike with a Bike Cave volunteer! Youth will learn how to change tubes, de-rust and clean bikes, tune up brakes and more. Youth who attend both dates will go home with a newly refurbished (used) bike!

Learn the basics of Mountain Biking in a fun obstacle course. Skills include braking and descending, cornering, trail etiquette, and weight transfer to get over an obstacle. Once through the skills course, youth may take a ride on some of the trails at Spirit Mountain. (This will be at the instructors’ discretion, and if youth are not ready to ride safely on the trail, we will continue on the skills course).
