Construction Update:

The building is now fully enclosed, drywall is getting hung, and painting has begun. The pool is beginning to take shape as the cement is being poured in the aquatics area and if you are driving by, you will notice that siding is going up on the outside of the building.

We are very excited to be building the YMCA at the Essentia Wellness Center in Hermantown. This facility will be a wellness-focused community gathering space for the entire Southern St. Louis County community to use and enjoy. The YMCA builds community through our dedication to serving our community through innovative programs and services in healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility.

By partnering with the City of Hermantown, Essentia Health, and the Hermantown City School District, the YMCA is creating diverse opportunities for people to connect, learn, and grow. This two-story, 72,000-square-foot facility will offer fitness amenities, including a large aquatic center, as well as clinical services, a high-quality Early Childhood Education Center, and community gathering spaces

The Essentia Health Regional Wellness Center’s $26 million budget is funded by state bonding and local funding from Essentia Health, the City of Hermantown and existing sales taxes. There are no current or proposed tax increases necessary to support this project.

The Duluth Area Family YMCA, the City of Hermantown, and our many community partners are engaged in an additional $3 million capital campaign to help raise additional funding for this project. Please consider donating to our community capital campaign and lending your support to this important project.

Access to licensed, quality, full-day childcare is one of the biggest challenges facing parents in our region today. We are proud of the excellent early education opportunities we are creating at the YMCA at the Essentia Wellness Center. Once the facility opens, the YMCA will begin offering affordable, high-quality childcare options for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers at our new facility. We will serve more than 100 children and will provide full-day childcare options for the entire community.

Our Partners

Building the YMCA at the Essentia Wellness Center would not be possible without regional support and collaborative partners including Essentia Health, the YMCA, the City of Hermantown, Hermantown Community Schools, St. Louis County, and the Hermantown Chamber of Commerce.
